About this spot
A bare marble outcrop just below the Acropolis entrance. Face west and the sun sets over the Ancient Agora, the western suburbs and, on clear days, the sea toward Piraeus, while behind you the Propylaia catches the last light. It is free and open at all hours. A modern steel staircase leads up, and the rock on top is worn smooth and slippery, with no railings at the edges, so wear shoes with grip. It is one of the busiest sunset spots in the city, so come early for a seat on the rock. The top is unlit, so bring a torch for the way down.
