A beautiful spot about 30-40 minutes east of San Francisco, perfect for an evening escape. At sunset, the golden light reflects beautifully on the water, creating stunning mirror-like views. The reservoir is surrounded by a scenic 2.7-mile paved trail that's easy and mostly flat, making it perfect for a leisurely walk, run, or bike ride during golden hour. Park at the Lafayette Reservoir Recreation Area. There's a small day-use fee (around $5-6 per vehicle). The parking lot is right at the trailhead, so you can start your walk immediately. The trail circles the entire reservoir, offering different vantage points to catch the sunset reflections. It's a popular spot with locals, especially on weekends, but the loop is long enough that it doesn't feel crowded. Bring layers as it can get cooler in the evening. Dogs are welcome on leash, making it a great spot for the whole family.
