My favorite Big Sur Spot

About this spot

Park at the McWay Waterfall Trailhead parking lot ($10, cash only) and walk for less than 10 minutes to reach this beautiful viewpoint. Head down the steps, pass through a tunnel, turn right—and there you are. The place feels unreal and is incredibly picturesque. In the first photo, you can see how it looks on a bright, sunny day, when I didn’t stay long enough to catch the sunset. I went back another time specifically for sunset, but unfortunately it was very cloudy, as you can see in the photos. Still, I can only imagine how magical it must be on a clear evening, watching the sun dip into the ocean with the waterfall and beach spread out in front of you.
