Vítkov Hill

About this spot

A long wooded ridge east of the centre, crowned by the National Memorial and the giant bronze statue of Jan Žižka on horseback. Sitting below the statue, you watch the sun go down behind Prague Castle and Petřín Tower in the distance, right in line around the spring and autumn equinoxes. The hill is free and rarely crowded. The memorial's roof terrace is free too but closes at 6 pm, last entry 5:30 pm, and is closed on Mondays, so it only works for winter sunsets. Take tram 9 to Ohrada, or climb the steps from Husitská street.
