La Jolla Cove

About this spot

The grassy bluff of Ellen Browning Scripps Park, above La Jolla Cove, looks straight out over the Pacific, and the sun sets into the open ocean. Sea lions and seals lounge on the rocks below, and a paved coastal path runs past the Cove toward the Children's Pool. Parking is street-only along Coast Boulevard and fills early, so arrive well before sunset or use one of the paid garages on Prospect Street, a short walk uphill. The park has lawns, picnic tables, shaded seating huts along the path and restrooms, and several Prospect Street restaurants have sunset patios.
