About this spot
This summit in the Berkeley Hills, crowned by communication towers, has a 360-degree view. To the west it looks over the central bay to San Francisco, Alcatraz and the Golden Gate, where the sun goes down, and to the east to Mount Diablo. Start from the free Steam Trains parking lot. The round trip is just under two miles via the Seaview Trail and Vollmer Peak Road, or more direct on the dirt Vollmer Peak Trail. Bikes are not allowed on the steep upper section. Bring a headlamp for the walk down.
