Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

About this spot

High in the eastern foothills, the preserve looks west over the whole Santa Clara Valley and the South Bay, and the sun goes down behind the Santa Cruz Mountains on the far side. As it gets dark the valley lights come on below. The free lot on Sierra Road has only 37 spaces and closes when full or at a set time near sunset, and parking on Sierra Road is not allowed, so come at least an hour early. Visitors already inside may stay until half an hour after sunset. There are picnic tables but no restrooms or water, and dogs are not allowed.
