Direct Sunset View
About this spot
From the terraces on the slope of Mount Hollywood you watch the sun go down to the west, with the Hollywood Sign on the ridge nearby and downtown lighting up as it gets dark. In winter it drops toward the westside and the ocean, in summer behind the Hollywood Hills. Lines on the West Terrace mark the solstice and equinox sunsets. Entry is free. The grounds stay open until 10:30pm and the building until 10pm, closed Mondays. Parking by the building is paid by card only and gets busy at sunset, so the DASH Observatory bus from the Vermont/Sunset Metro station is an easy alternative. Restrooms are next to the parking lot, and there is a café.
