About this spot
Point Reyes Lighthouse sits on a headland at the western tip of the Point Reyes peninsula, high above the open Pacific. Nothing blocks the view to the west, so on clear evenings the whole horizon turns gold and red. It’s one of the windiest and foggiest places on the coast, so the sky can change fast. Park free at the Lighthouse Visitor Parking lot at the end of Sir Francis Drake Blvd, then walk about 0.4 miles, mostly uphill, to the overlook. The stairs down to the lighthouse close in the late afternoon, so you watch the sunset from the cliff-top area above it. There are basic restrooms at the parking lot. Bring warm layers, and check the park’s site before you go because high winds and weather can close the area.

At first it was clear skies and super windy, then the wind got stronger and so did the colors over the sea…
